PRESENTATION

Guacamole is one of those things that really brings a fresh and zesty vibe to any get-together, no matter the occasion. Straight from Mexican food traditions, this guacamole recipe keeps it classic with ripe avocado, a squeeze of lime, chopped onion, tomato, and plenty of cilantro. In Mexico, people often use a molcajete—that’s a big stone mortar and pestle—to mash everything up, giving the dip that creamy but kind of chunky feel everyone loves. And listen, no worries if you don’t have one; a fork or regular pestle works just fine to get that rustic texture.

The best part? This easy guacamole only takes a few minutes to make. Really. You end up with a bowl of colorful green, full of those tender avocado pieces and a little tangy kick from the lime juice.

But this dish isn’t just for piling on nachos or stuffing in burritos. Folks have been getting super creative—think spaghetti tossed with homemade guacamole and a side of crispy salmon, or even swapping out the main ingredient to make a zucchini-based version when avocados are hard to find. That’s what makes guacamole such a fun and moist party option; it fits into all kinds of food traditions and feels like a mini fiesta every time you serve it.

When it comes to best guacamole tips, using really ripe avocados and plenty of lime juice makes all the difference, while cilantro brings out that fresh pop. Whether you’re setting out a big bowl for game night or adding a dollop to fajitas, this Mexican dip always disappears fast. People love mixing in extras like jalapeno for a little heat, or keeping it simple with just the basic guacamole ingredients.

And here's the thing, however you serve it, there’s something about simple guacamole that always brings friends together and puts everyone in a good mood. Grab some chips, scoop it up, and let the fiesta begin! Plus, try serving it with grilled chicken or as a topping on a juicy burger for even more delicious options. It’s a versatile favorite that never goes out of style—seriously good.

How to prepare Guacamole

To prepare the guacamole, start by cleaning and chopping the white onion 1. Now take care of the avocado by cutting it in half 2, then remove the pit 3.

Transfer the avocado to a large mortar 4 and season it with table salt 5. Cut a lime in half and squeeze the juice 6.

To season and prevent the avocado from oxidizing, pour the lime juice into the mortar 7. Gently start mashing with the pestle 8. After about 2 minutes, you will have achieved a creamy consistency 9.

Add the finely chopped onion to the mortar 10 and take care of the plum tomatoes. Cut them into four wedges and remove the inner seeds 11, then dice them into half-inch pieces 12.

Enrich the guacamole with the chopped tomatoes 13 and give it a good stir 14. Now finely chop the cilantro 15.

Finish with more tomato cubes 16, a sprinkle of cilantro 17, and your guacamole is ready to be served 18!

Storage

We recommend consuming guacamole immediately to prevent oxidation.

Freezing is also not recommended.

Advice

The secret to a delicious guacamole is definitely using well-ripened avocados that should feel soft but not too mushy under your fingers.

If you don't have a mortar, you can use a fork to mash the avocado.

White onion can be substituted with red onion or fresh scallions.

If you don't like the taste of cilantro, you can omit it or replace it with parsley.

Curiosity

The name guacamole comes from Ahuacamolli, where ahuacatl is the Aztec name for avocado (which in Mexican becomes aguacates), and molli means sauce.

Originally, guacamole was made only with avocado, lime, and salt, but over time, the recipe has been enriched.
